Types of Minibus
If you’re new to the mini bus industry and are looking to rent a mini bus or buy a mini bus, it’s a good idea to know more about the industry and the types of mini bus vehicles available before investing the money in buying one that may, or may not, fit your needs.
Understanding the Different Types of Mini Bus Vehicles
There are various types of mini bus vehicles, and you should know the basics of each to get a handle and understanding of what you may need for your purposes. There are three basic types of mini bus vehicles: there is the purpose built mini bus, the body build mini bus, and a mini bus van conversion.
A purpose built mini bus is exactly that—a mini bus vehicle that is manufactured for the sole purpose of being an actual mini bus vehicle for carrying a large amount of passengers. These are the larger, longer mini bus vehicles that you see that are created for large groups, and they are generally made by bus manufacturers themselves. Companies that make standard consumer cars also offer mini bus purpose built vehicles. For example, the Toyota Coaster and Nissan Civilian are two mini bus vehicles that are built by well-known car manufacturers and are created for the transportation of a large number of passengers.
Then you have the body build mini bus, which is a bus that is built off of an original body design of another vehicle. For example, a Ford Transit can have the chassis converted to a mini bus and allow for a higher capacity of seating and more room with the larger cabin area. This is great for smaller groups that may be traveling, such as church groups or daycares, and are generally more affordable than a purpose built mini bus. Body build mini bus vehicles are also set up so that the driver is the only one seated in the front, and this allows for passengers to enter from the front passenger side of the mini bus to pay fares if the mini bus is being used for transporting passengers to locations at a cost.
The most economical version of a mini bus is the van conversion. Van conversion mini bus vehicles are mini buses that originally start as a van design (for example, a Ford Transit, Toyota Hiace, or a Mercedes Sprinter) and are rebuilt by another manufacturer to include a back cabin area, additional seating in the original cargo space, and splitting the front and back area into two different zones. By going with a van conversion mini bus, you can talk with the company rebuilding the van to have the mini bus created to meet your needs. You can have extras incorporated, such as a possible wheelchair lift, an added ramp for easy access through the rear of the mini bus, and step equipment to help make it easier for others to get inside of the mini bus with little effort.
No matter what you decide to purchase or rent when it comes to your mini bus, make sure you know the basics so your investment is well worth the price.
